Day 3; GDT 1: Eureka to Seeley Lake, MT

Our day started at 5:30 AM and we spent the first 1 1/2 hours getting the bikes packed and ready for our adventure. We left the RV Park at 7:00 AM and headed to the boarder to take some pictures and to officially start our trip South.

Ed did not have the GPS working properly, so we were reliant on paper maps for the first 50 miles of our trip. The first 20 miles was a little rough as we were not familiar with the maps and spent the first hour running in circles trying to find our path. Once we figured things out, we were able to find the route and follow the maps without issue. After 50 miles, we picked up the GPS tracks Ed had programmed and were good for the remainder of the day.

We traversed some beautiful country today traveling all types of roads from single track to two track to oiled dirt roads to gravel roads to asphalt roads. The day started out warm with a mild overcast sky and then turned to black clouds and rain for most of the 280 mile day. Ed got a flat tire late in the day from what turned out to be a faulty Schedar valve (better than a pinch flat).

We arrived in Seeley Lake at 6:30 PM, making for a very long day.

Our highlights of the day were; A Black Bear crossing the road (no picture), seeing several white tail deer, driving by a gaggle of Turkeys, seeing Horses, coming across many beautiful lakes, eating wild huckleberries, and experiencing a beautiful trail.

The following are pictures from the day.

Wild Huckleberries. These were awesome. We saw several people along the route today picking wild huckleberries.

The road was closed last week due to this avalanche damage. We were lucky it was open! There was still snow on the ground and we met the guy who had cleared the road.

Two track road! This was a fun trail even though it was short.
